Honors Thesis
Requirements & Guidelines
Each COAS Honors Program student is required to complete an Honors Thesis in the discipline of their major. All graduating Honors Program seniors are required to submit a thesis in the Spring semester of their senior year. Directed Readings courses exist in all COAS major departments and are required for all Honors Program students. The goal of these courses is to help prepare Honors Program students to write and complete their thesis by their senior year, and they provide an opportunity for students to work with a faculty advisor throughout the research process.
Beginning in Fall 2023, the Honors Program began offering a one credit hour course focusing on the research process for incoming freshmen and sophomores, as well as surveying upper classmen to determine their research needs and honors thesis progress. Both the course and extra support supplement the Directed Readings courses by providing research process guidance in a learning community format that includes guest lectures, data analytics applications, field trips, workshops, conferences and ePortfolio development.
