Academics

The Honors Program offers freshmen and sophomore level introductory courses that also satisfy general education requirements.

Some of these courses are offered regularly, others occur on a one-time basis under the label of a seminar course. That is, in any given semester, in addition to the regular offerings, there may also be one or more courses entitled Honors Seminar in the Humanities, Honors Seminar in the Social Sciences, or Honors Seminar in the Natural Sciences. Whenever these courses occur, there is included a description of the topics taught.

Each Honors Program student is also required to complete an Honors Senior Thesis in the discipline of their major. To this end, most departments offer one-credit Directed Readings courses for sophomores and juniors. Some departments require you to take a directed readings course once a semester, others are satisfied with one directed reading course per year. In addition, most departments have a one to three credit directed readings course for seniors. The names of these directed readings courses vary by department, but should be easily recognizable.
